Hi,
I think to replace my DME due to weird things which look related to an electronic erratic issue (engine sometimes micro cuts when one passenger moves his feets, sometimes low rpm during 1 or 2 seconds after cranking)
How does the ftech9 DME work with aftermarket chipset ?
I’m happy with my Vitesse set up (Stage 3 with V-flex, V-knock and Momonitor) and don’t consider moving to a new platform. Is that as simple as installing the chipset in the ftech9 DME ?
Does the original KLR stay untouched ?
Any feedback now it’s been in the market for several years ? Is the OBD upgrade necessary ?
Next step would be a new engine harness but would like to avoid having to hack it to wire piggyback and other stuff.
Thanks !

When I bought my 88 Turbo in Oct. 2022, I started going for basic stuff to replace for longer term peace of mind. When I learned of F9, and what it was, I jumped on it. The car runs and feels as I imagined it should given I never drove another Turbo before I bought mine. The idle is better, the performance seems more solid and consistent and with the OBD option, you can record your logs and even send them to Joe to have him give you some feedback. I did this just over the past couple of days myself and it helped me iron out an issue.
With the way he builds these you can use either a 24 pin or 28 pin chip from any manufacturer with no need to do anything to the KLR. You can have a new OEM wire harness made by Kroon or Technica Racewire and it will be as it should. I recommend it unless you're going to move to stand alone, which I'm doing at some point soon regardless.

I have the F9T DME with OBD+, which I've found to be very handy in tracking down issues. The new DME works just like stock (only better) so you can use any chipset you want. You can download the OBD+ software from the F9T site and look through its options on your computer before purchasing.

Thanks,
The DME has been ordered !
I’ll see in the future to change the harness. If there are troubles with the harness, hope the obd diag feature can help to diagnose.

@Latitude48 How is the DME with OBD+ working out? Is it fully developed and ready for prime time? @FTECH9Latitude48 wrote: Wed May 22, 2024 6:58 pm I have the F9T DME with OBD+, which I've found to be very handy in tracking down issues. Everything works fine for me. I'm just waiting for the 944 Turbo MAF system which I believe will be more accurate than the one I'm currently running, which uses some crude conversion electronic components for its MAF to AFM translation.Tom wrote: Thu Sep 19, 2024 9:17 am@Latitude48 How is the DME with OBD+ working out? I know Joe has been upgrading his production facilities this year and that has slowed down some of the development projects, but the NA MAF system is now released, so the turbo version should be available once Joe gets his flow bench configured for testing higher flowrates needed by the turbo and makes any necessary tweaks to the code.
Anyone can download the latest beta software and see the engine parameters the OBD+ monitors and records.
I know Joe eventually plans to make a KLR replacement.
As an aside: I'm now running an APR 91 AKI low torque tune in my Golf R (398 HP, 357 ft-lb) and it really feels peppy now! The high torque tune (385 ft-lb), tweaked to work with the locked DSG TCU should be available any day.

I had forgotten about this thread... So @marcoturbo is now running the Ftech9 DME but that did not solve his engine cut out issues and whilst running out of ideas we thought he could try my old KLR which so far seems to have fixed the issue. Touch wood.
