Just wanted to confirm what I am sure is correct.
You can put a 3.0 Mid sleeve into a 2.5 block?
The broken Rage2 2.5 engine block I have is 106mm dry sleeves in a 2.5 block.
Will use a Mahle piston.

no, not even close. the 'floor' of the blocks are in two very different elevations.

It’s a little confusing as they show the 3.0 sleeve as 944 & 968
Then 944 2.5
Semantics I suppose.
Better if it read 944S2 and 968
Thats a 104 bore with 2.5 crank correct?barnwerks wrote: Tue Mar 11, 2025 8:50 am Better I think if the distinction were made between original bore size of 104mm or 100mm.
That way, the 104mm, 2.7L 944 would be included with the 968 and 944S2.
Not a combination I often think about?

the datron 2.5 sleeves start at about 101.5mm (their manufacturing process min limit) but you can bore them out to 104mm max.

That’s was where my confusion was.
Any particular Mahle piston size you would choose for a 2.5?
I sat down with my friend Joe at Fidelity and he can easily install sleeves.
The cost of Nikasil work is 1954$ Canadian plus I have to get the blocks to Winnipeg. That didn’t include honing cost which I would still have to get pricing.
Easier for me to get Mid wet sleeves.
The machines at Fidelity are way beyond what Darton recommends.
Would just have to figure out honing….hopefully I can convince them to buy a honing machine.

Yes. My 3 liter started life as a 2.7 '89. It has the same block as an S2 as best I can tell -- 104mm, high coolant floor, conjoined cylinders, etc. Just needs pistons and a crank to make it a true 3 liter.gruhsy wrote: Tue Mar 11, 2025 9:19 amThats a 104 bore with 2.5 crank correct?barnwerks wrote: Tue Mar 11, 2025 8:50 am Better I think if the distinction were made between original bore size of 104mm or 100mm.

If I were to do a project like this I would bore the MID sleeves out to 104mm, get a 3.0 crank and make it a 3.0 liter. The pistons are going to be custom so you might as well get the 3.0 pin height. The sleeves and machining are the same cost, the pistons are the same costs, you just need to find a 3.0 crank.gruhsy wrote: Tue Mar 11, 2025 10:54 am Ah

Any engine shop can home them for you, its standard stuff.
Don’t underestimate the costs to install the sleeves. Its $1k to $2k in labor most places.
